I don’t know how many of you have seen this, but I just saw it for the first time on IMDB, it reads…
“Aliens invade Earth and inadvertently spawn a quartet of mutated reptilian warriors, the Ninja Turtles, who rise up against them to defend the world.”
What the heck? Seriously?
I have no words….

As I do every year, I went to ComicCon San Diego last week. It was incredibly awesome, as you might expect. I am still looking into ways to finish our graphic novel. My goal was to speak with Kevin Eastman and IDW about finding a way to get our book finished. For those of you who aren’t aware of the legal situation, Nickelodeon owns all the rights for TMNT. The license to print was sold to IDW just a couple years ago. Nickelodeon believes TMNT is for kids, and we made our graphic novel around the idea that there are a lot of guys in their 20′s, 30′s, and even 40′s that grew up with the turtles and have been craving something a bit more serious. Needless to say, all attempts to get Dawn of the Ninja published have failed.
Kevin Eastman is probably one of the nicest guys at the con, I’ve never seen a creator spend so much time with his fans before. Before we spoke, he spent about 30 minutes with just one fan, signing tons of stuff, chatting about all manner of things, etc. Kevin has been aware of our project for about four years now, he loves what we have done and even offered to do some art, maybe a cover, and whatever he can to support Dawn of the Ninja. IDW was also more than agreeable and wants to do everything they can to help our project get finished. However, getting their support doesn’t really mean much in terms of the legalities of doing this. The next hurdle is Nickelodeon.
I have no clue what Nickelodeon will say, I’ve spoken with them a few times in the past, and while they are very nice, they are very protective of TMNT and how their stories are told (and rightly so). Hopefully I will get a chance to speak with them soon about letting us finish the book using crowd funding, and hopefully they don’t mind.
In other good news, we got a lot of interest in Nocturne, an original by Jeremy and myself. We will be completing the novel in the next couple months and I expect it will be published by early 2014 at the latest. In the mean-time, please support us by downloading each of the available four issues of Seven Percent from ComiXology. Also, don’t forget to pick up the first issue of Ghost Cop this October. Published by Antarctic Press, Ghost Cop was written by VJ Boyd (writer on “Justified” the TV show) and his brother Justin Boyd. Here’s the tagline…
“Hard-boiled police detective Tom Fraley, killed in 1947 by a vicious serial killer, returns as a ghost in 2013 to hunt down whoever’s replicating that killer’s pattern, and to take vengeance for his own murder.”
And that’s all for this year, hopefully there is more to follow very soon on whether or not Nickelodeon will allow us to finish Dawn of the Ninja.

Greetings TMNT fans,
I am once again toying with the idea of doing a Kickstarter to finish Dawn of the Ninja. Aside from a soft and hard cover copy of the finished graphic novel, are there any other incentives you would like to see on our Kickstarter? What would entice you to contribute? We have quite a bit of money to raise in order to finish the remaining 11 chapters of our book, so I may do one Kickstarter for every chapter. What do you guys think?

We have been working hard on developing several original comic concepts over the last few years since we began DOTN and realized it may never see publishing due to it’s mature nature. On the 27th of this month, the first issue of Seven Percent, a six issue mini-series by Jeremy and I will be released on Comixology and iVerse. It is a sci-fi series heavily inspired by my love for manga. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a long time, I just never had the chance until now. Thanks to DOTN, I’ve been able to make all the connections necessary to make Seven Percent a reality.
Someday I would like to complete DOTN, but that all depends on how successful we can be with our own original titles. If you like action, sci-fi, anime, manga, or cool stories in general, (okay I’m bias), then I hope you will consider reading Seven Percent when it is released later this month. I will keep you posted. For now, here is the first issue description and cover art.
“In the year 3499, programmed UNION soldier infiltrates the Separatist city of Subterra in search of the Psion Machine, humanities’ most sought-after and cryptic super technology. The mission falls apart when he finds the infamous machine only to discover he and it share a puzzling bond.”

The upcoming reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, titled simply Ninja Turtles, has been a bit of a controversy since it was announced, but co-creator Kevin Eastman wants fans to know they shouldn’t worry. He’s already on the record as saying it will be a great film and he reiterated that in an interview with Examiner.com.
“This will be a great TMNT film,” said Eastman. “Much like many thirty year old concepts, the TMNT’s have been re-invented a number of times, some were stronger than others, but if you look at what Viacom/Nickelodeon has done/allowed to happen with the new TMNT animated TV series, and the new IDW comic series, each has a slightly new and refreshed take on the ‘core concept,’ the new film with be the same, a film ‘well placed’ in the TMNT lore the fans will enjoy. If we learned nothing else from one of my favorite Comic Book Based Films, ‘The Avengers,’ that there’s a lot to be said about never forgetting that core concept and core fan-base.”
He also told NBC Chicago about the script and what films the production is looking at for influence.
“From what I’ve seen of the script, it’s fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. We’re talking about being inspired by movies like ‘The Avengers’ for scope and roots origin and ‘The Raid: Redemption’ for fight scenes and ‘Rise for the Apes’ as far as computer-quality style.”
And where does Eastman fit into the film? Is he actually working on it?
“General creative consultant for the most part, which is cool as I get to wear a number of hats. From kicking the tires on a few plot threads with the awesome writers, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, here and there, to banging out cool character doodles for director Liebesman, they bring me in regularly to show off the latest landscape, and to get my thoughts, and so far, I’m 1000% on board! I know it will be an awesome film, and the start of a killer new franchise for Viacom.”
Ninja Turtles is now slated for a May 16, 2014 release date.
